Origins

The Gajahemp Sarong/Lungi was inspired by the founder's journey to replace the most practical and well-worn sarong and travel companion of many years.
To share the feeling of total simplicity — to only really need one item of clothing in multiple scenarios — a bit like a monk wearing his robes or the sadhus of India. There is a sense of detachment from the material and consumerism, realising how little you need.

The finest and most suitable hemp fabric was eventually found in Nepal, supplied by a family who bring it all together, with more than 20 years of dedication to what they do. They work with a network of individuals in the community handling farming, processing, and weaving.
The Nepalese hemp industry is different from that of China. Their machinery and processes are simpler and hands-on. This approach may take more time and carry natural quirks, but it reflects the kind of craftsmanship and community collaboration we stand for.

Simplicity, community strength and patience with the process are values close to the heart of Gajahemp.
